- Q. How often should I have my chimney cleaned?
- A. At least once a year to maintain efficient burning, and to prevent chimney fires.
- Q. Will my insurance pay out on a chimney fire?
- A. This will depend on your insurance company. They may ask for proof when it was last cleaned.
- Q. When I shut the wood burner door the fire goes out!
- A. Either the fire needs a clean, the wood is too wet or the vent may not be opening properly.
- Q. When I adjust the vent to turn the fire down nothing happens!
- A. You may need glass or door seal. The firebox could be cracked.
- Q. My wood burner doesn't seem to give out much heat.
- A. Either the wood is too wet, you need a new baffle plate or the flue needs a clean.
- Q. My open fireplace blows back smoke in strong winds.
- A. In most cases an H-pot cowling needs to be fitted on top of the chimney.
- Q. How long does it take for wood to dry?
- A. 12 months for Pine and Macracapa, 2 years for Gum and Manuka.
